Ready, Steady, Go!
Once upon a time (December - 2000) a brave, helpful, friendly, sexy, charming (not to mention modest) young man by the name of Jon Simpson had a dream. The dream was about the Internet and how its mighty power could be harnessed to give the world a place (well, another place) to come when they wanted gaming stuff. This dream was mixed with a smattering of basic web design skills, a mammoth collection of gaming stuff, many sleepless nights and a bloke who looked like Clyde from the Clint Eastwood films as a “yes” man (thanks for saying 'yes' Guy).

KMANT's aim is to spread a variety of gaming thoughts, reviews and general content to the masses, hopefully promoting playing to new players as well as keeping the veterans interested. We have tried to keep our content interesting and entertaining, making a site that we enjoy making and hopefully you'll enjoy reading.

We are a totally non-profit organisation, with little old us paying for the domain and hosting out of our own pockets. Although it would be nice to sit around all day being funded by a super rich gaming corporation, our independent status can also be a blessing in many ways. It allows KMANT to go where it pleases, without trying to cater to any games or products that we don't genuinely want to cover, giving you honest and hopefully more helpful content (go ahead and test us, post as much money you like, we will not be $way£d).

The Name
KMANT - Killing Monsters And Nicking Treasure – is homage to the stereotypical roleplaying games of old where a group of often bearded, regularly sweaty gamers would sit around murmuring about +4 socks of legging it, chainmail bikinis and who would win in a fight between Captain Kirk and King Arthur. This was just part of the gaming life though, adventuring was where it really kicked in, leaving no dungeon safe or monster standing, and God help anyone who suggested a break from the usual session...

“You meet a giant rat”
“My 21st level Paladin will smite it”
“OK, with your ‘+5 sword of making thing’s dead’ you kill it”
“Just as in real life, I will search the body of the dead rat”
“You find ten gold pieces and a packet of Tic Tacs”
“Great I’ll take everything”
“You travel on for another few hours and meet a Cyclops, I assume you want to kill him and take his wallet, iPhone and car keys?”

Yes, some people really played games like this, very little thought just random encounter after random encounter until the madness sets in and everything starts to go red. Two days later we read about several more roleplayers dying needlessly from vicious pencil inflicted wounds.

Nowadays roleplaying has become far more mainstream in many ways (though it is still not quite as popular as say football or mints). It is now kind of 'cool' in its own different original way and to an extent the commercialism has helped to bring it out of the shadows and introduce more first time gamers to the hobby. With various games now promoting a little more actual roleplaying and with hundreds of new settings in thousands of new world’s things look pretty good.

Warhammer & 40K
Jon has been a life long lover of all things Games Workshop and it seemed a shame not to bring the two interests together given that a lot of other gamers also romp in both arenas. So KMANT became ever so slightly schizophrenic and now it covers both RPG and Warhammer / 40K related stuff.

The Now
KMANT is now nine years old and we all still love gaming and everything about it... except perhaps stepping on D4’s with bare feet! KMANT will continue to grow and if you like the site then please tell your friends about us, however if you don’t like it please stay very quiet... trust me you're wrong and it's better if you don't risk social exclusion with your strange opinions.

Happy Gaming Amigos!
